Shetland Space Centre in Unst, Scotland, is the United Kingdom’s first vertical launch facility.
Located on Unst–“the island above all others” and Britain’s Northerly-most point–Shetland Space Centre is someplace special. Built at the retired RAF Saxa Vord radar station, “600 miles north of London and less than 200 miles from Norway”, the natural wildlands and primal features of the launch facilities surroundings make Shetland Space Centre one of the most isolated–and picturesque–launch facilities in the world.
It is this isolation and exposure to untamed nature that makes Shetland Space Centre and Unst the perfect location for a legitimate kid astronaut training center.
In 2020, Lockheed Martin announced they will be launching from Shetland Space Centre in 2022.
